Raimundo Santos

Raimundo Santos (RaiSan) is a first-generation Angolan-American jazz vocalist and composer. Santos’ repertoire includes music from the American Songbook and his own compositions. When Raimundo performs he delivers each song in his own style. 

 

Raimundo Santos grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Temple University as a Jazz vocal major, He received his Master of Music in Jazz Studies degree from the University Of The Arts. Raimundo Travelled to Angola, Africa where he spent many years to connect with his roots. While there, he was a popular television personality, serving as a vocal coach on Angolan National TV in a program similar to “American Idol.” Santos performs primarily in English, he also sings songs in Portuguese, Spanish, Kimbundu and a few other languages. In the past year, he was a guest on an international program on Portuguese TV Channel RTP Africa singing his original music and talking about his career. 

 

Since Raimundo Santos’ return to the United States he has appeared in many venues in the Philadelphia area including Venice Island Performing Arts Center in a Philadelphia jazz Project performance directed by Homer Jackson that was aired on the “Philly CAM” cable station.

RaiSan can be seen performing regularly three nights weekly at Eddie V's Restaurant in King Of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

Raimundo performed a concert in the Producer’s Guild “Second Friday” series. He has also appeared at South Kitchen Restaurant and Jazz Club and Paris Bistro as the featured vocalist with Lynn Riley and the World Mix, Santos is also occasionally the featured vocalist with The Don Glanden Trio at the Ubon Thai Restaurant in Wilmington Delaware. In New York City, Raimundo performed at Something Jazz Club and as a featured vocalist at Bar Thalia with the “Mimi Jones Trio”. 

 

A recording artist, Santos released a single Too Late and two albums Love's Calling and

Coming Home, and a third album has just been completed, it will include his most recent compositions, which reflect his new sound and wide experience. 

 

Throughout his career, Santos has been involved in musical theater. Before going to Angola, he served as music director for “Rainbow Company” at The Prince Music Theater and was an actor/singer in several musicals there – “St. Louis Woman, The Hidden Sky” and “Candide the musical”. He has also performed at Plays and Players Theater and Freedom Theater. While in the New York, he performed as “Friar Laurence” in the musical "Romeo and Juliet" for a NY festival and off-Broadway in "Swing! - The Musical".
